You can explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill on the same day, at any time during the site’s opening hours, either before or after your Colosseum visit.
Enhance your adventure by boarding a panoramic riverboat, offering a peaceful and scenic ride through the Eternal City. You may use the boat either before or after your archaeological visit, or even multiple times throughout the day. Your boat ticket is valid for 24 hours from the moment of first use, allowing you to hop on and off as many times as you like. Boats run daily between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with boarding points at Piazza di Ponte Sant’Angelo and Isola Tiberina.
The experience includes an immersive audio guide app available in six languages (English, Chinese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish), featuring 44 points of interest. - Infants: Please do not sit on laps, as infant seats are not available.
- Colosseum Entry: The scheduled time refers to your entrance to the Colosseum. Your ticket is valid for 24 hours, allowing you to visit Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum within that period.
- Meeting Point: Please arrive at the meeting point 20 minutes prior to your selected entrance time for ticket collection.
- Identification: To enter the Colosseum, you must present an official ID (ID card, driver’s license, or passport). Photocopies, documents for minors, or images on mobile devices will not be accepted.
- Audioguide App: The audio guide app requires a modern smartphone (produced no earlier than 2020) for download. Please note that headsets are not provided.
- Bag Policy: Large bags, backpacks, or suitcases are not allowed inside the Colosseum, and there is no cloakroom service available.
- Security Delays: The Colosseum’s capacity regulations and security checks may cause delays to your tour, especially during national holidays or events.
- Riverboat Ride: Your Riverboat Hop-On Hop-Off ticket is valid for 24 hours from your first embarkation. Riverboats run daily from the end of March to early November, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Departures are every 30 minutes.
- Boarding Points: Suggested embarkation points are at Ponte Sant’Angelo or Isola Tiberina.
- Weather Conditions: The Riverboat Ride may be canceled due to bad weather conditions. In this case, it will be rescheduled, or a partial refund will be issued.
- Comfort: Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the tour.
What do I need to bring?
- Comfortable Shoes: It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes as the tour involves walking on uneven surfaces.
- Summer Accessories: During the summer months, bring sunglasses, a hat to protect yourself from the sun, and apply sunscreen to avoid sunburn.
- Hydration: Don’t forget to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the visit.
- Charged Smartphone: Make sure your smartphone is charged as you’ll need it to download the audio guide app.
- Headphones: Bring headphones with you to fully enjoy the audio experience and clearly hear all the information during the tour.
- Identification Documents: To enter the Colosseum, you will need to present an official ID (ID card, driver’s license, or passport).

Descend the stairs next to the Saint Angelo Bridge (Ponte Sant’Angelo) and reach the level of the river, where you’ll find the Saint Angelo Bridge pier (molo Ponte Sant’Angelo) on the Lungotevere Tor Di Nona side.
From here, a boat departs every 30 minutes from each embarkation point, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Please note that the river boats are not active from November 2 to March 30.”

A hot visit to the Colosseum!
Had to collect tickets from a shop near to the Colosseum – lady there was most helpful in explaining where we needed to go and to download apps to our phones for the self audio guide (also gave us some free water with the heat!). Found the entrance easy and then enjoyed the tour – only issue was that the GPS signal wasnt great inside so it was difficult to sync the audio guide to what we were looking at. Took a break before doing the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum – we went on a very hot day and it was hard work walking around – make sure you have plenty of water!! Surfaces were very uneven – which is understandble considering its an ancient monument.

Amazing place to visit, weak audio guide
Such an amazing place to visit, it’s easy to understand why this is a must see! The sites were fantastic, but the audio tour was too generic. There were some interesting clips, but not enough about what we were looking at when we were at different points and too much generic history. In retrospect we would have got a lot more from a guide, but it was very nice to go at our own pace.

The skip-the-line access was a huge plus—no waiting around in the hot sun! We also got upgraded for an Arena tour and got to explore areas that aren’t always open to the public, which made the experience feel exclusive and even more special.
